Problem, Need or Opportunity

My family has been tossing around the idea of starting an Internet business selling scooters and scooter parts for a couple of years.  My son has really gotten into the sport of scootering in the past year and we have found it increasingly difficult to find a local store to buy parts for the scooters.  It is also hard to find out information about scooter parks, camps and events geared towards scootering.  I would like to create a website that promotes our new business, but at the same time promotes the sport of scootering.  Scootering is such a fairly sport.  In fact, scooters are not allowed at some skate parks in San Diego.  I feel that if we can raise the awareness of scootering as an up and coming sport, it will be more widely accepted and appreciated.  The nice thing about scootering is that it is a sport for all ages – young and old.  They make three-wheel scooters for kids as young as two and stable scooters for the young at heart!

Audience

The main audience would be kids (and adults) who scooter.  Skate parks and organizations sponsoring scootering events may also use the website to promote their events.

User Needs

In talking to my son and a group of his scootering friends, these are the things they would like to see on the website:

1.     An online store selling new scooter parts and accessories as well as apparel

2.     An online Òscooter swapÓ so people can trade/sell/buy used scooter parts from others

3.     A page with links to skate parks that allow scooters, information about upcoming scooter events and links to other useful and/or interesting websites catering to scootering

4.     Photos and video of Òscooters in actionÓ – maybe links to YouTube videos

5.     A contact page introducing the KNACK scooter team

Environment

Users will most likely be accessing this site from their home computers.

Resources and Limitations

Photos will be posted without last names, to protect privacy and safety.  Parent permission will be obtained before posting any photos of a minor where their face is shown.  Online bill pay will have to be created for purchasing items through the website, most likely PayPal will be used.

General Solution

The scootering community is growing by leaps and bounds.  A kid-friendly website dedicated to the sport of scootering will only help the sport grow and become more accepted.  Our hope is that this website helps raise an awareness about the scooter generation!
